Care Package Initiative
Offering Comfort, Hope and Connection
Receiving a cancer diagnosis and beginning treatment can be one of the most difficult moments in a person’s life. For many, that first day of treatment is filled with uncertainty, fear, and countless emotions. Our Cancer Care Package Initiative was born from a simple desire — to remind every patient that they are not alone.
Each care package is lovingly assembled by members of our faith-based cancer support group and given freely to patients receiving treatment for the first time at our local cancer center. Inside each package are small, thoughtful items chosen to bring comfort on what may be a daunting first day:
Lotion and lip balm to soothe sensitive skin
Tea bags for a warm moment of calm
A pen and notebook for reminders, reflections or journaling
Puzzle or game books to help pass the time
A packet of tissues and a sticker for a little brightness
And, a card of encouragement signed by members of our group
Together, these simple gifts carry a powerful message — you are seen, you are cared for, and you are not walking this journey alone.
A Growing Effort
Each package is given at no cost to recipients, supported entirely by the generosity of group members, donations, and the shared compassion of our community.
The initiative began with 50 care packages in spring 2025, followed by 100 in November 2025.
We’re looking to expand this initiative, providing a small act of kindness on a more frequent basis for years to come.
How You Can Help
If you feel moved to support this effort, there are a few meaningful ways to get involved:
Donate – financial contributions help us purchase supplies and expand the reach of our packages. We are currently taking steps toward providing charitable tax receipts starting in 2026!
Contribute items – we gratefully accept donations of new, unopened care items such as lotion, tea, tissues, notebooks, pens, lip balm or puzzle books. Though some product brands may change with availability, the high quality of items we include is purposeful.
Get in Touch! – if you know of a product vendor or local business who would be interested in supporting this initiative, let us know!
Together, we can continue to bring warmth, dignity, and hope to those beginning their cancer journey.
